OSS: The story of a rock’n’roll band on the rise in the 60’s.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies – the music is fantastic, the story is interesting, and the characters are entertaining throughout. Steve Zahn never fails to make me laugh with “Looks like Lenny’s going fishin’!” This movie is why I like Tom Hanks as a person (he wrote, directed, and stars in it). If this is what he creates – he’s amazing.  Also my entire family quotes this all the time. ALL. THE. TIME.

At some point I’ll indulge and do an intensive dissection of the liner notes of the soundtrack (as there are backstories for FAKE BANDS – can we say amazing) and point out all the trivia between this movie & Apollo 13. Tom Hanks did them back to back and there are sooo many nods to Apollo – it’s impressive. Also, the extended cut has about 30 extra minutes that are actually worth watching (as opposed to when I watch some deleted scenes & think “yeah – that deserved to be cut”).

It’s funny & family-friendly; a movie I would recommend to just about anyone!

Newsies OSS: Based on the true story of the News Boys Strike in 1899. Now a Broadway musical.
This is my musical. I’m pretty sure we rented this like at least once a month until we bought it. Why it took us so long to buy – I don’t know. I love this movie so much that while it was in concept for Broadway I was on the mailing list. It’s the reason I went to NYC for the first time. It’s also still a little how I see Christian Bales. Kenny Ortega (director of this movie & High School Musical) is a master at making male dancing look like it should.
